The American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT Luggage 4-piece collection offers variety in both wheeling luggage and hand-carried bags. The set is lightweight and has what we consider to be average build quality. It isn’t super durable but this set is pretty good, just not great. The multiple interior and exterior pockets are a welcome feature for good organization. Our consumer score for this luggage set was good especially considering its price tag. A good buy for those who don’t travel frequently as it may not be ideal for everyday use.
Dimensions & Weight
The American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT is a set of two pieces of suitcases and two pieces of bags of different sizes. There is a wheeled duffel bag that measures 11.5 x 23 x 12 inches. Big enough to pack at least one week’s worth of items. Handy for a quick journey. Its weight comes in at 2.66 lbs.
The wheeled duffel bag can be rolled upright if you choose, taking some of the burdens off of your shoulders and arms when traveling through the terminal. The boarding bag measures 10 x 15 x 6.5 inches and weighs 0.83 lbs. The 25″ suitcase measures 25 x 16.5 x 8 inches and weighs in at 7 lbs while the smaller 21” weighs 5.55 lbs and measures 21 x 14 x 7 inches, a suitable carry on bag to take onto the plane since it meets the requirements of many domestic and international airlines. Note, however, the Carry-On weight and size allowance of each airline is different. Overfilling your bag may push it past the limit of weight allowance by some airlines and may not be accepted if you are flying an airline or route where they are sticklers for weight.
Materials & Water-Resistance
The American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT is made of ultra-lightweight 600D shiny polyester construction. 600D polyester is one of the most utilized fabrics in luggage manufacturing. It is an inexpensive heavy-duty fabric boasting a good degree of thickness. The material is well known for its durability and means you don’t have to worry about your belongings as they will be well protected.
The 600D polyester material on its own has little to no water resistance. To become water-resistant, the material must go through a PU(Polyurethane) coating process. For the American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT, a little splash across the surface will keep your belongings dry but the bags are not swimmers. When packing fragile equipment like a camera or a laptop it is best to stuff it in between clothes.
We expect our suitcases to last, that’s the reason we try to pick the durable ones and it’s one of the harder metrics to quantify especially in new untested luggage lines. Our American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT managed well under our average use and moderate inspection. The corners have been reinforced and make these suitcases and bags sturdy.
The handles and zippers have been a problem for some customers with some reporting stuck zipper handles breaking, and just generally not being able to handle heavier weight. We didn’t experience trouble with the zippers and handles but it should be something to be aware of, always check your bag when it arrives for any issues.
When it comes to maneuverability, it’s nothing impressive. The wheels are standard unidirectional wheels and might put a few people off who prefer a multi-directional wheel but the truth is, they are strong and perform their task well especially when you think of the price tag.
The collection takes an impressive score of 79 out of 100 from our True consumer scoring criteria. This score reflects the durability and customer satisfaction of the collection with significant consideration towards reported incidents of failure. We are happy to recommend this bag.
There aren’t any flashy or novel features the American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT can boast of. It does come with some extra interior and exterior pockets. Useful for those who like to organize their luggage by item priority.
The handles come with an ergonomic design that has this cool satisfying lock with push buttons. It makes pushing and pulling the handles in and out quite smooth.
The promotional tagline of the American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT is fashion meets fun and that’s a fair statement as far as marketing speak goes. The collection doesn’t shove a standard boring piece of luggage in customers’ faces in an attempt to make sales based only on its low price tag. It manages to keep its affordability while looking stylish. Nothing too fancy but still not something you would be ashamed to be dragging through LAX.
The only issue in design comes down to preference. The wheels. The collection maintains a standard unidirectional wheel design which isn’t uncomfortable but for those who have used a suitcase with multi-directional wheels, going back to rollaboard wheels might not be a welcomed change. As we said, the wheels are a matter of preference.

The Fieldbrook XLT comes with American Tourister’s limited 10-year global warranty. American Tourister offers three different warranty periods for their luggage, the 10-year limited warranty found here is their most common, but they also have a 3-year and lifetime warranty available with other luggage lines.
Warranty claims are only accepted if the problem is directly caused by defects in the manufacturing process, material, and workmanship only. Accidental damage or normal wear and tear of the luggage is not covered under the warranty. This means that if the damage is caused by some mishandling along its journey which you aren’t responsible for, the warranty doesn’t have you covered. Should something like the zipper fail to open though or the handle pulls right off, then there is a reasonable claim for an exchange or free repair. The warranty will not apply to you if you bought the luggage second-hand, as it only covers the original purchaser, or in the event that it was a gift, the original gift recipient.
The cost involved will come from the shipping of your luggage to American Tourister’s authorized repair center. Even if you take it to a company store, you will still pay them to ship your luggage to their repair store. An inspection of your luggage will be made by the repair center and if your claim is denied you still have the option to repair your luggage if you agree to foot the bill. The other option is to have it returned to you or have it disposed of. Just remember that in all scenarios, the cost of shipping is your responsibility.
This luggage collection is designed for functionality. It is affordable and aimed at the budget-conscious traveler. If you ascribe value based on performance per dollar, you will view this collection as a good value-buy. It does not stand on the altar of design and build quality but it aims to serve its purpose and does so quite well. It is just one of those products that let you take a step back when you look at the price and realize you are getting multiple pieces of luggage for the price of one. If you haven’t looked at discount luggage sets before this deal might seem too good to be true. You might expect that it is indicative of low-quality fabric or bad craftsmanship, but that’s not the case.
With most things, there is a point of diminishing returns where spending more doesn’t get you any more tangible features or noticeable increases in quality. For luggage, those diminishing returns come sooner than most and the super high end seeks to differentiate themselves with luxury name brands, styling, and warranty. But even the best warranty is not worth it when it comes at a cost that is 3-4 times that of a luggage line with similar reliability. The American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT manages to deliver a good-value luggage collection for an impressively affordable price tag.
Everything comes down to what you want. The American Tourister Fieldbrook XLT is not your everyday use ultimate journey bag. Buying it for that purpose might leave you disappointed. This line is well-suited for those who don’t travel frequently, perhaps a trip once or twice a year, and don’t want to spend more than they have to on luggage. If you fall into that crowd you will most certainly appreciate this collection.
The Fieldbrook XLT’s affordability, quality, and functionality make it an attractive option. We are confident in recommending this bag to those on a budget or those who simply don’t want to overspend on a wheeling bag. At the end of the day, a suitcase is not a status symbol for most of us, it’s just a container to get your clothes and deodorant to hither and yon.
