Past Success Fostered the Revival of the Connection
The direct connection between Tenerife and New York, which was successful last year, has now been reactivated for the summer. United Airlines offers a direct flight from 550 euros, which takes about eight hours. Flight operations commenced in June and are expected to continue until September 27th.
Connection Offered Three Times a Week
The flight operation includes approximately 13,400 flight seats for United Airlines’ customers. The connection is between Tenerife South Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. Flights depart in both directions three times a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from the USA and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from Tenerife.
Boeing 757-200 Used on the Route
The eight-hour flight duration is facilitated by a Boeing 757-200, which has a range of more than 7,200 kilometers and a top speed of 935 km/h. The aircraft can accommodate 169 passengers, with 153 seats in Economy Class and 16 in Business Class.
Connection Expected to Repeat in 2024
According to Pedro Martín, President of the island of Tenerife, if the connection is successful, it will be served again next year. Last year, the flights were almost 90% full, with 26,507 US travelers transported. This represents an increase of about 55% compared to 2019. So far this year, 11,138 people from the US have already visited the Canary Islands. With the direct connection this summer, a significant boost in US tourism to the Canary Islands is expected.
