The national airline of Azerbaijan is set to operate twice a week, providing a quick direct connection from Vienna to the Caspian Sea. The maiden flight took off on May 2, 2023.

A Warm Welcome for Azerbaijan Airlines

Vienna Airport celebrated the arrival of Azerbaijan Airlines, excited to welcome a new airline offering a direct link to Baku. The airline’s Airbus A319 will now connect two dynamic capitals – Vienna and Baku. The new route, inaugurated by Khalaf Khalafov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Rovshan Sadigbayli, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Austria, Jamil Manizade, Deputy Executive Director of Azerbaijan Airlines, and Mag. Julian Jäger, CEO of Vienna Airport, promises to stimulate tourism and business travel.

Deepening Bilateral Ties

The launch of direct flights between Austria and Azerbaijan is seen as a significant milestone in their bilateral relationship, built on 30 years of mutual understanding and friendship. This new air bridge is expected to enhance mobility and connectivity in air travel, opening up new possibilities for cooperation and deepening ties between the two nations.

Supporting Tourism and Business

As a 4-Star carrier according to Skytrax, Azerbaijan Airlines takes pride in facilitating direct passenger flights between Vienna and Baku. It aims to unlock the full tourist potential of Azerbaijan and Austria for their citizens and fortify economic, cultural, and social relations.

Convenient Flight Schedule and Short Travel Time

The airline will operate flights every Tuesday and Friday, making travel plans more flexible for passengers. The flight duration between Vienna and Baku is approximately three and a half hours, making Baku, the modern capital on the Caspian Sea with its fortified medieval old city, a tempting destination for city breaks.


Azerbaijan Airlines, established as a national airline in 1992 and awarded the 4-Star rating by Skytrax since 2015, continues to expand its influence in the global aviation industry with this new route. This new addition to Vienna Airport’s flight schedule demonstrates the continuous efforts to enhance air connectivity and provide more direct flights to interesting destinations.
