When is the best time to visit Disneyland?

If you ask the kids, they’ll most likely say that summer is their favorite time to enjoy a trip to the Magic Kingdom. However, adults are slightly less enthused about summer visits since it’s one of the busiest and hottest times of the year.

So, should you risk it and pay a visit during the summer just to appease the children’s enthusiasm?

To help you make a decision, we put together a short list of the pros and cons of visiting Disneyland during the summer months. Read it and see which is most important for your experience.

Disneyland During the Summer Months

Why You Should Visit Disneyland in the Summer

1. Everything’s Open and There Are Lots of Fireworks

There’s no doubt about it, June, July, and August are the busiest months at Disneyland. The kids are out of school, and the parents are on vacation, so everyone can pay a visit to the Magic Kingdom to let the young ones burn some energy.

And yet, if you know how to plan your visit, summer can be the best time to go to Disneyland. When Disneyland is at its busiest, all the rides are open, and the most entertaining events are on a roll.

Moreover, this year, due to the Disney100 celebration, the fireworks are even more special than usual. Every summer night, visitors can enjoy the World of Color and fireworks show (in honor of the anniversary), which is an amazing experience that you don’t want to miss.

Plus, you’ll have the chance to admire the Magic Happens parade, led by Mickey Mouse and his pals. This parade is a daytime spectacular that includes jaw-dropping floats that celebrate moments of magic from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios films. It’s also a unique occasion to see and meet a wide range of Disney and Pixar characters.

2. It’s Convenient

While it is hot, there are fewer chances of rain, and kids can roam around unhindered. Plus, both parents and kids are on vacation during the summer months, so you don’t have to disrupt anyone’s schedule.

3. Less Travel Hassle

When you travel during summer, you don’t need as many clothes and gear, which makes it a lot easier to handle luggage. In fact, you may not need more than a well-designed backpack that can take in your clothes, shoes, and snacks.

Plus, if you travel with the kids, they’ll have more fun playing in the sun and admiring the view. As long as you’re careful and stay out of direct sunlight (for as much as possible), summer is a great time to travel.

Why You May Want to Avoid Disneyland in the Summer

1. Cheaper Tickets

Prices for Disneyland tickets can shoot up during the summer months, but if you’re flexible with your schedule, you can get a significant discount during the non-peak season months (between February and April).

2. Fewer People

On average, Disneyland has around 50,000 visitors per day, which is an insane number of people if you think about it. Luckily, not all days pack a huge crowd – there are days when attendance is lower, and you can enjoy a more relaxed park experience.

On the downside, this tends to happen during the winter months, when the weather is not too friendly. Also, you may get fewer crowds during the week when the kids are in school.

However, make sure to avoid the holidays (Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Christmas), since these are some of the busiest times at Disneyland.

3. You don’t Like Hot Weather

Speaking of weather, the summer months are hot and dry in California. The coastal areas are a bit cooler than inland areas, but Disneyland is not exactly on the beach.

So, you may have to endure temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to the mid-90s, even 100F some days!

If you don’t like hot and dry weather, then the winter months may be a better option. Also, spring and fall are quite pleasant, especially if you don’t like rain.

In Summary

If you can handle the heat and dry weather and don’t mind sharing the experience with a lot of people, Disneyland can be a blast during the summer months. Plus, if you plan ahead and buy tickets in advance, you may even get a good price.

So don’t let others lack of enthusiasm for a summer visit to Disneyland weigh you down – take all the necessary precautions and enjoy a fun summer adventure!
